Outdoor Dining — How to Build a Table Worth Staying At

The Eichholtz outdoor dining collection — tables, chairs, and lounge pieces designed for long evenings on a terrace. A guide to choosing the right pieces for a Las Vegas outdoor dining space.

Outdoor dining is different from eating outside. One is a meal moved to the patio because the evening is too good to waste indoors. The other is a deliberate design decision — a space built for long dinners, good wine, and the kind of conversation that only happens when no one wants to leave. The Eichholtz outdoor dining collection at our Las Vegas showroom is built for the second kind.

We carry dining tables, outdoor chairs, and lounge pieces that are designed to hold up to exterior conditions without looking like outdoor furniture in the usual sense. No plasticky frames, no cushions that need to be stored at the first sign of weather. These are pieces that belong outside in the same way that a well-designed interior belongs in a room — chosen deliberately, not just placed.

The right dining table doesn't just seat a number of people. It sets a tempo — for the meal, and for the evening that follows it.

Choosing the Right Table

The Vistamar dining table in aged teak is one of the most versatile outdoor dining tables in the Eichholtz collection. Teak works outdoors because of its natural oil content — it weathers to a silver-grey patina if left untreated, or stays honey-warm with occasional oiling. The aged finish we carry is already partway along that spectrum: a tone that looks right beside modern concrete, travertine, or a more traditional garden wall. The oval format seats eight comfortably, which is the number most serious outdoor dining spaces are actually built around — four couples, a larger family group, the size at which a table still feels like a dinner rather than an event.

Sizing a dining table to a terrace is a little different from sizing one to a dining room. Inside, walls and floors give you a clear boundary. Outside, it's easier to overscale — to choose a table that's too large for the comfortable use of the space around it. A working rule: allow at least 90 centimetres between the edge of the table and the nearest wall, fence, or planted border. That's enough for a chair to push back fully and for someone to walk behind a seated guest. A 240-centimetre oval table, which seats six to eight, typically needs a terrace footprint of about four by three metres at minimum. The Vistamar Aged Teak has generous proportions — measure before you order, and if you're unsure, come to the showroom and bring your dimensions.

  • Teak and ageing. Teak's natural silica content makes it resistant to water, rot, and insect damage without treatment. The aged finish is a starting point, not a final state — over years it will continue to mellow unless sealed. Either outcome is intentional and both look correct.
  • Oval versus rectangular. An oval table seats the same number as a rectangle of similar length, but the rounded ends allow people to sit at the corners and still join the main conversation. There's no head of the table, which suits long outdoor meals where the dynamic shifts throughout the evening.
  • Stone and ceramic tops. If you prefer a lower-maintenance surface, the Cloverdale table uses a ceramic stone-look top. It's impervious to heat, moisture, and staining — a practical option if the table will be used daily rather than for entertaining.

Getting the Chair Right

Outdoor dining chairs take different punishment from outdoor lounge chairs. People sit forward, pull closer, move in and out of a chair multiple times over the course of a meal. The frame needs to be solid without being heavy — on a terrace, chairs get moved constantly. The Marenzo chair is built on a powder-coated aluminum frame with a performance-fabric seat and back. Aluminum doesn't rust, which matters in Las Vegas where summer monsoon season brings genuine humidity alongside the more familiar dry heat. Powder coating holds colour and prevents the chalky oxidation that uncoated aluminum develops in sun.

Seat height is set for standard dining — proportioned to work at a 74-centimetre table, which is the most common outdoor dining table height. The seat depth is generous enough for a long evening but not so deep that it becomes lounge furniture. That distinction matters: a chair that's too deep encourages slouching, which is comfortable but makes it harder to reach across a table. The Marenzo gets the balance right.

If you're outfitting a larger terrace, four Marenzo chairs at a round or oval table and two at the head ends of a rectangular one is a common configuration. For a more casual arrangement, mix the Marenzo dining chair with the Marenzo armchair — same frame system, slightly different proportions, and the visual rhythm keeps the setting from looking like a hotel terrace.

After the Meal

The best outdoor dining spaces are designed with what happens after dinner in mind. The table clears, someone brings out a second bottle, and the evening has nowhere obvious to go — unless you've planned for it. A lounge arrangement positioned nearby, but at a clear remove from the dining area, gives the evening a natural next chapter. People migrate over. The conversation continues. The distinction between dinner and the rest of the evening blurs in the way that outdoor living is supposed to allow.

The Marenzo outdoor sofa uses the same powder-coated aluminum frame and performance-fabric system as the chair — the pieces are from the same family, so they coordinate without matching in a way that feels designed. Positioned eight to ten feet from the dining table, angled toward the garden or pool rather than back toward the house, it functions as the destination after dinner rather than a piece that competes with it. Add a low outdoor coffee table in front and you have a complete lounge moment within the same terrace plan.

Materials for the Las Vegas Climate

Las Vegas is not a mild outdoor climate. Summers hit sustained temperatures above 100°F, with UV intensity that degrades most residential-grade outdoor materials within a few seasons. The monsoon period from July through September adds sudden humidity and rain. The Eichholtz outdoor collection is rated for these conditions: powder-coated aluminum frames, performance fabrics that are UV-stabilised and water-resistant, teak and synthetic rattan that don't warp under heat.

The cushion fabrics on Marenzo pieces dry quickly after rain and hold their colour through a full season of Nevada sun. They're not delicate. You don't need to bring them inside every time a storm passes through. That kind of low-maintenance durability is often what distinguishes outdoor furniture worth buying from outdoor furniture that looks right in a showroom and disappoints six months in.

Teak tables benefit from a scrub with warm soapy water once or twice a year to remove pollen and dust. If you want to keep the warm-golden colour, apply a teak oil or sealer in spring before temperatures rise. If you prefer the natural grey patina teak develops when untreated, do nothing — it's a finish that looks correct alongside stone, concrete, and powder-coated aluminum, and it reads as intentional rather than neglected.

At the Showroom

Eichholtz Las Vegas opens this summer at Tivoli Village, Suite 160. The showroom carries a selection of outdoor dining and lounge pieces — the most useful thing about a physical showroom for outdoor furniture is being able to assess the seat height relative to the table, see how pieces relate to each other in a proper arrangement, and understand scale before committing. Photographs compress perspective. A showroom doesn't.

In-stock outdoor pieces typically ship within two to four weeks from the Eichholtz warehouse network — considerably faster than the twelve to twenty-four weeks that's standard on custom or made-to-order outdoor furniture from most luxury sources. If you're specifying for a project — a residential build, a hospitality property, a multi-unit development — our trade team can work with you on layout, quantities, and lead times.
